Strange but profound truths By Carolyn Pierce, President Political Stuff. . . Did you know that a postal union does not have a constitutional right to place political endorsements on its bulletin boards? A federal appeals court has ruled that employees of the post office may not wear partisan political buttons, badges, pictures, and stickers or place these on their bulletin boards. The case arose from the 2000 presidential election when the APWU placed Al Gore for President posters on their bulletin boards nationally. The Postal Service, at that time, ordered managers to remove the posters from the APWU bulletin boards, which really caused brouhaha. AP This. . . There is no more AP. . . this or that. When you need a pay adjustment (good luck) or other pay issue you are always asked what AP or accounting period the problem was in. We are not on a calendar system. . . October is October, November is November. Don't forget to use your new employee number instead of your social security number on all postal related forms. Your personal number is at the top of your pay-stub. What goes around comes around. . . Peace, Carolyn |
