OIG Interviews -- Request a Steward By Sandra Munoz, A couple of months ago two employees that I represent got interviewed by the Postal Inspector Service and the Office of Inspector General (OIG). It saddened me to see that although we have preached for many years to immediately request Union representation in these cases that only one of these employees did this. I handle numerous offices and both incidents happened at offices that I am not domiciled at. When I received the call from the one employee that did call me to request representation I told them that I would be right there. When I got to the station I was again alarmed to see that the employee was in talking to the OIG without me. I cannot stress enough that we the Union are here to look out for your rights and the best interest of our members. No matter how friendly a Postal Inspector or OIG seems to you they are not there to be your friend. They are there to do an investigation and will do whatever it takes to accomplish their goal. Please, Please, Please make sure that if an inspector wants to interview you for ANY reason to tell them that you will participate in their investigation as soon as you get your Union rep with you. All window clerks or T-6 employees please be very careful
when going out to the bank to get change for the window. We have an employee in
Hollywood that was robbed at gun point when she went to the bank to get change.
A car with two people in it pulled up. One guy got out of the car and pulled out
a gun and placed it to the clerks head. She was thrown to the ground as they
stole the money she was making change with as well as her personal cell phone.
This was obviously a very traumatizing experience for the employee. Be discreet
and make sure you are very vigilant. Your safety is our major concern.
